Afternoon all.

I'm toying with the idea of upgrading my old UHF setup, and it got me to thinking of the best place to mount an aerial. I currently have a 60cm 6db gain aerial affixed to the bullbar, but have been less than impressed with it's performance (both in mountainous country & desert). A past search through the archives indicates the consensus is to mount it on the roof for best performance, but with my Rangie already being 205cm tall (at the roof rack), putting an aerial up there will cause problems in the inevitable multi-storey carparks (most are restricted to 2.1 metres).

So my question is this : has anyone on this forum attached a UHF aerial to a roofrack (or gutter) using a flexible swivel mount that allows the aerial to be rotated into a horizontal position? Not a new idea I know - you see planty of them on boats, but I can't find reference in the archives to anyone who has done it on their 4x4. Any feeback will be appreciated....

T-Bone.

The 6db / 9db modular antenna from GME swivels to horizontal. Can be seen at gem.com.au...........That's the one I use mostly......6db mobile and 9db if static and looking for distance...........my UHF performance has been ordinary of late though - not sure what it is. Maybe the 3000 needs to go ?
