Just a refection on how i saw the Tanami track this year, it would seem that the number of overseas tourists driving rental 4wd's up and down the track at breakneck speeds to either catch their plane out of the Alice or starting the trip from the Alice does nothing for the road conditions, and safety of others on the road, whilst travelling on the track early September i had the occasion to stop to do some minor adjustment and during the course of about an hour 3 of these speed freks went pass at break neck, used to be a person would stop to ask if everything was alright, but allas no longer when the plane awaits, also struck the same on the Gib every one with a hire vechile just beating the hell out of it, heard of one guy who had trouble with his troop carrie and waved a car down for a tow and was the diver ask for $1,000 to tow to the next town.

GIDDAY,I dont think that they are trying to get to a plane but have been told to travel at those speeds so they dont feel the corrugations.I have also heard the worst thing you can see comeing towards you is a fritz in a britz.I have travelled the areas you mention and more and found that the rental 4x4 drivers are hell bent on killing them selves and others.I would like to know the stats on rental 4X4s.
Just my bit

it's not only the OS tourists. We stopped to see is a chap needed a hand with his trailer on the Cordello Downs road in July. He was Ok as he wAS well set up with gear & spares, but he commented that we were thethe third 4wd to pass but the first to stop.
We chatted for about half an hr as he completed the bearing change and gave us aome good advice as to camping spots we had missed, so it was worthwhile for both of us.

Guilty of passing a fellow up towards Dalhousie a couple of years ago ....with the garden trailer loaded to the hilt with water and everything else, and at a glance knew there was nothing I could do to help, late evening and a wife to calm as well... He/they had a wheel and hub attached with the axle ripped into the ground ....Do people expect everyone to stop and help / fix ..when common sense has been left in the suburbs?

the Bore Track was in good condition all the way. When you first turn north at Bollards Lagoon, you cross the lagoon. This still had some water when we were there in July with 2 wheel tracks heading across into the distance, but good firm track.
We camped for the night in the sand hills just before we went over the Bollards Lagoon boundry so were able to pick up firewood (we were told to do this by the people at the HS) as you can NOT collect wood in the Innamincka Reserve.
A very interesting track that has signposts (small) at every track junction.
So enjoy it

Hold the Bus.
If the above makes on sense, that's because it is the answer to post 16502.
I cut & pasted it to the wrong post.
Thank God its Friday, I need a rest

Hill End can't come quick enough buy the looks of that Vince, speaking of people stopping I had to stop about 15k before Merty Merty station as the trailer broke for the second time, a couple in a discovery drove right past us, i'm under the trailer trying to fix it and Kerry & Vanessa are passing me things when they drove by, anyone could see we were in trouble the thing that pi$$ed me off was that i stopped to see if they were OK 1/2 an hour earlier they weren't in trouble but thought i'd see anyway, thankfully another car stopped and said they would see the owner of Merty station to let him know about us as it was getting dark, he actually came out to find us, we went to the station and he welded the trailer for us and we were on our way again after a chat and a cuppa, thats what i call a top bloke.

Baz.
