Gday Mob,

want to fit diff breather extensions to my hilux. Is there somewhere you can buy a kit that comes, not only with tubing and filters, but also with replacement breathers, as some blokes I have spoken to say they just jam the extension hose over the top of the original breather sitting on the pumpkin. Dont like the idea of this and would rather replace the original breather with some sort of nozzle that would screw into the diff pumpkin in place of the original breather so that the hose will fit and seal over it. Any ideas?

Cheers

Gday Toffa,on our 4 Runner I unscrewed the original breathers and got some compressor fittings with the same thread(which are tapered and seal up nice and tight) and a straight barb on the other end. Then used compressor hose and ran them up to the top of the firewall and wacked a fuel filter(used) on it.Used this for front and rear diffs but had to make up different fittings for g/box and transfer case. Cheers Nick

Superior Engineering sell kits.
I just ordered 2 via their web site for $45 each. This includes fittings, cables and 2 metres of High Pressure hose
www.superiorengineering.com.au
Haven't received them yet so can't tell you how good they are but should know by end of next week

G'day Toffa,
Found a guy who had done his own diff breather kit for his 4runner. I also have a 4runner and did the same thing cost me bout $10.

Undo the current diff breathers, ride down to your local hydraulic shop and get a part with the same thread. Then get some clear hose that fit's onto the end of the breather and hydralic part, Clamp the hose onto the hydralic part once in the diff.

I took the back diff tube and cable tied it up to the fuel filler
and the front one, cable tied it up in the engine bay.

This is an easy and cheap way to fix this problem.

Oh I got the clear hose from Clark Rubber, use clear as then you can tell if you get any water or crap inside.

Hope this helps,

blokes website is www.boosted4runner.com if my instructions weren't clear enough

Thanksamillion for all your help fellas. Have ended up buying a set of HJ75 breathers, and will sit those in the diffs, and put the hilux breathers at the other end of the hose. Like the idea of clear hose too!

Cheers
