Johney I have a 1994 discovery 3.9 same engine as you are looking at the difference is the efi system ;thay are not 4.0 litres little bit of b/s from Land rover any way 16 litres per 100ks will the best; and 18 to 22 is normal for every day driving inc off road ;thay are great to drive loads of torque down low but like most v8s thay are thisty TDIs use 10/ 13 litres per 100ks my brother has one He can get 750 per tank were I get 500 per tank but I like my v8 hope this helps TONY

Johno

I'd agree with Tony. Had a '96 V8 and it was a top rig. Mind you I don't think they're much more thirsty than the big sixes.

And you can't beat the subtle exhaust note of an 8.

Cheers

I tend to get more km and smoother running using Premium Unloaded or Optimax. Will get about 500km out of a standard tank.

The major drawback is towing however where the fuel economony is quite poor.

Apart from that they are extremly reliable and comfortabl to drive, especially off road and on long highway drives.
