Fuel tank breather LC80

Hi all
My Cruiser is getting a lot of vacuum in the fuel
tank, so much that the lift pump can't get fuel to the engine after 200km. Is there a breather somewhere that I need to check?

Mate, Sh i t happens in your world by the look of it.
Anyway this is just a thought as I have 75 series Troopy and it has a fuel
tank breather system that terminates/ends outside the vehicle, under the floor, right under the passenger
seat area.
It had this weird one way(ithink so anyway) valve thingy on the end of it that caused all sorts of problems.
Solution to it all was pi s s this plastic do-da off, and cable tie the end of the breather hose to handy bracket at floor level.
You may have the same set up as I can't see good old Tojo designing a breather sytem special for the 80.
This may help you.
Just recently I replaced the factory fitted fuel filters on the Troopy with a Lucas CAV twin system.
Afterwards it was a nightmare to get it to run in the first instance , and then run properly thereafter.
All the problems were attributable to air bleeding/sucking into the fuel line via the new filter system, however once traced and fixed it now runs like a 'masseratti'.
What I am alluding to is, to run correctly, the fuel has to have an unimpeded flow from the
tank to the pump.
i.e. no, blocked filters, no air leaks, no partial blockages from kinked fuel lines or rubbish in same, no vacuum etc etc.
No doubt you have checked all of this, but ist still food for thought and easy to double check on.

Hi John,
if all else fails, try leaving the fuel cap partially undone. this should relieve any vacuum problems or alternatively help track down the problem.

That worked to get me home, but I now have to find the cause. Have a few things to try now, so we'll see how I go.

Have a crack at www.lcool.org - they have an 80 series specific list where the guys on the list have probably experienced these issues with the same model you have!! There is also a tech page with a heap of mods and workarounds for the 80 series

Hi Jiarna, the first thing I would do before any thing else is change the fuel filter. You will be amazed at the problems and symptons a dirty fuel filter will do.
