Hi Guys, any 80 series owners ever found the hand throttle choke locky thing not to wrk sometimes. Is it easy to fix or do I need to pull the whole thing out. Havn't got my hands dirty yet, just wondering as it is not urgent to fix.
Thanks Skinny

Hi Skinny

My hand throttle was not working at all so I pulled it apart for a look. It seems that the cable had actually stretched. I put a new cable in and it works like a charm.

The knob only travels about 1cm but that's enough to lift the revs to over 2000.

Thanks Penguin(Such images) my problem is not that the throttle doesn't work but when i turn the knob it no longer locks at the rev speed. It just keeps turning. My son was fiddling one day and Ido not know if they can be turned or unturned yet?

Nice Pic by the way

Skinny

I seem to remember that my knob (well, the one on the dashboard anyway!) used to turn through the full circle until I replaced the cable.

Hi Skinny
Just behind the knob there is a small knurled plastic type screw which is the lock screw. If you tighten that up you should be able to lock the cable. That screw type nut is what puts the tension on the cable and holds its. Mine is always getting loose and I have to constantly tighten it up. Failing that grab yourself a wooden clothes peg and pull the cable out and hold it with the peg. If it revs to high just file down the peg. I set mine to between 1200 and 1500 and its plenty.
Best of luck

80scrusier,

I had the same problem. Put a toothed washer on it and it seems to have stopepd the need to keep re-tightening.

Hey Skinny,
Sounds similar to my problem. In mine there was a small metal clip
which the knob clicked in to to stop it from moving around. You wouldn't even know it was there if you wern't looking for it.I ended up buying a new cable from toyota i think for about 40 bucks.
Good luck
Don
