Converting hilux surf 2.4L td auto to 3L td

Has anyone done this before or know someone who has? The reason I ask is i have the oportunity to buy a hilux surf in very good condition cheap due to engine problems. I don't want to fix the 2.4 as everyone i know that's had one has had a lot of problems with that motor.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You would find more people that have put V6 Commodore motors in them.
