Does anyone know anything about these or where i could find info on reliability, parts availability and economy? I'd much prefer a 3.0 td surf but don't have the cash. Can get a Terrano v6 for just under 5k from the local importer.
Any info would be greatly apreciated.

Andrew,

Most, (I thought all) terranos in Aus are 2.7L turbo diesel. The 3.0 L would be just like the local pathfinder I believe. Therefore no problems with parts etc.

Try the Nissan Pathfinder Off Road Association

Look out for rust in the torrano under the rear seat.

Yeah, you should be able to get parts in most places around. As stated above, watch out for rust under the rear seats and if an auto, also get a larger transmition cooler.

for $5 k that would include on roads so check that out thatt might add $1.5 k on to the price. The 3.0 VG motor is not the best one about. It has lots of grunt but has a tendence to overheat and warp heads. series one PTU are know to fail ,so grab a series 2 ptu unbolt from the motor and make a bracket up and bolt on to the radiator. The detenation sensor for some stupid reason is under the manifold! when it fails leave it there and bolt the new one on top of the manifold at the rear. That saves one heart ache.O2 sensor are common to fail left hand one is a bi#ch to get at. Fuel computer fail all the time and located under the rear seat about $150 at the wreckers for one.

Autos's will need a $750 service and bands. Now for the auto cooler ....Its a reed type thats total rubbish.90 percent of failed auto's are due the the reed type cool blocking.Replace it with a after market one and seal the old cooler up.

When you buy it do a 100,000 kms service (about $900 in parts) that way you wont have to worry about dropping a tensioner !

Apart from the rust under the rear seat the terrano is a very underrated 4WD you will love it.
