Guys
Was given the Lifestyle Video Productions 'The
Canning Stock Route' DVD for Fathers Day (3 disc set). Each DVD appears to be a single sided DVD burn (as you see with a CD at home - not the normal dual layer commercial DVD). I have noticed that the discs do not appear to play consistently on a range of DVD players (some of which are high quality and have never before had an issue playing DVDs). Some players read the video of the DVD, and not the audio, some run all three discs ok, some start to 'skip and stall' part way through the disc. I have cleaned all discs thoroughly and there are no scratches. Without entering into the debate about quality of particular lasers in DVD players, has anyone else experienced this issue with this particular DVD set.
Cheers
Steve

Sounds to me that they have copied on to bad quality disc's or they are pirated DVDs, either way call the company they might replace them. Heat from the player effects home copied DVDs causes them too skip and pixelate and freeze, we found that having the player out in the open not in a cabinet works better.

G'Day Discovery,
I car'nt say that I experienced with that particular DVD set but have experienced the same problems with others, and the cause is usually the same. I suggest that you contact LVP and ask them the following questions ...
1. Why not provide the set on dual layer burn disks? ( Dual burners are available, although the disks are expensive )
2. What format are they burnt in, ie -R +R ? ( -R is preferred for home DVD players, especially older units. +R is preferred for computer based DVD players and recorders )
3. Is it DVD format or VCD?
4. Request that exchange the set and that they test run the new ones before sending them.
I know this from experience as I do a fair bit of burning in all formats, in both dual and single layer, and run into the compatability issue all the time. Untill the industry decides on one common format this will always cause problems.
Regards,
Bazza.

G'day There
I had the exact same probelm with the same DVD set from LVP. One of the discs worked fine for almost the whole way - then started to lock up. One of the others did the same in a number of
places...
This was all on a high quality DVD player that was less than 6 months old.
I contacted LVP and they were concerned - but replaced the DVD's in question. I have not watched them again myself yet - but loaned them to a friend who said they worked fine for him....
Fingers crossed.
Cheers

Problems like this usually relate to the media used, +R or -R. The issue relates to compatability with DVD players. Not all -R will play correctly in all DVD players, and not all +R will play in all players. The compatability ratings run about 80% for both types. -R used to be regarded as the most suitable for home DVD use and is the standard supported by the DVD
Forum, however +R is taking over. This is the standard supported by the DVD Alliance. Think of Beta versus VHS......

Commercial dvd's that have been pressed should play on any player. Sounds like yours have been burnt like we do at home and have compability issues. I find my expensive player with it's complex circuitry to be fussy while the daughters el cheapo will play anything you can throw at it.
