was wondering if anyone had hit anything with a smart bar (plastic roobar) If so how it went looking at one for a 100 series I do a fair amount of city driving but live in a wallaby/wombat infested area accessed thorugh state
forrest and am tired of crawling home at night. Have refrained from putting a bar on up to now as lets face it metal bars do increase your chances of seriously hurting someone in an accident........(and you cant legally choose who you have an accident with...can you?)

I used to have a Smartbar on an MQ Patrol I once owned, and hit a few roos with it. Never damaged to bar or the vehicle.
My sister has one on her diesel Hilux, and last time I talked to her she'd hit 7 big roos with it. 2 of them caused panel damage, but they were so big and hit that hard that they would have bent a steel bar too. She is sure that the Smartbar has prevented her vehicle from being stranded with radiator damage. I asked her if she'd buy another one, and she said, "Definitely." So I'll be getting one for my 80 series in the next couple of months.

Check the bullbar mounts on the Smartbars that have hit things. I've seen some that have cracked the mounts after a big hit.

Sorry also meant to add that I heard of a guy who swapped his for a steel one as his spotties used to shake and vibrate or whatever even with light stays on (maybe just a rumour).
Mine do that on my steel bar anyway so may be a non issue.

G`day dp Have had one on our 100 series for 4years.Only problem was the shaking
driving lights.Fixed that by putting a stainless steel plate on the top side of the bar, under the Super Oscars. Then inside the cavity beneath the lights I fitted a couple of angled brackets that touch the walls of the cavity.QED.

DP,
Saw these demonstrated at a local field day earlier this year, attached to Hilux and hit by large log at a rate of knots,
big bend but then almost no
sign after around 20 mins. They used the same bar for demo's about 10 times per day. Bar still loooked O.K. after all this.
