I have a 4.2 turbo GU 2002. Does anyone know what the motor or vehicle code is as per the log book. It designates service items to specific vehicles such as only do filters for D22, Y61, YD, ZD etc. What is this vehicle??????

Y61 is the model of your vehicle. Y60 was the GQ...heck I hope I'm right!

Definetly a Y61.
The D22 etc is for other vehicles such as the Navara.
Nissan use the one book for several vehicles.
Your engine should be a TD42 for a naturally aspirated diesel
or a TD42T if it is turbo.

Thanks Scott,

Mine is the TD42T. Another question you might be able to answer is on oil filters. From reading a number of sites it seems as though the 4.2 has had a number of filter changes in it's time. From using two of the same to two different filters. Plus different quality (I guess) as some cost approx $10 each and other $25 each, mine has two of the same at $25 each. What is the difference between the $10 and $25 ones?????

Thanks

I can tell you for a fact that there's not much mate, did about 20 services on the Patrol. The filter brands are owned by the same company ie. Ryco and Repco.

I don't know much about failure rate, but I have used both filters and never noticed a difference.

I must admit though that Nissan don't charge much for their filters either and you would have a little more comeback at them if you used geniune. For air, oil and fuel, it was just as cheap to go to Nissan as it was to go to Supercheap or Repco...that is of course in Brisbane.

Hi Chris,

These are all genuine I'm talking about both the $10 and $25 ones. I even asked at the service section what the difference was and they thought it was just quality but didn't know.

Nissan supply 2 filters one a $10 one and the other is $25. They are both to suit the 4.2 turbo patrol, the cheaper one was used a couple of models ago and now they use the $25. But I can't find out what the difference is are they finer, etc etc.

You would think there would have to be some difference. Bit unlikely that there is no difference but one is over 2 times dearer. Makes you wonder!

Well, I guess once production stops on the older type, we'll be stuffed! Just check with Nissan on my previous comments as that suited the GQ and it was a 90 model. If they say it's all good, save $30.00 everytime you do a change and spend it on the better oil!

I'll check next time I do a service. Certainly worth saving the money if the filters are adaquate.

OK
I use exactly what the book states. Better from a business point of view.
The early GQ's used 2 x Z115 filters and then in the GU they went to 2 x Z503 filters (using Ryco numbers which is a generally accepted part number accross most brands)
On the late model GU turbo diesel some run 2 x Z503 filters and some have 1 x Z503 and 1 x Z416. Most non turbo GU's run 2 x Z 503.
WHY - No body knows. Maybe Nissan found some old oil coolers laying around the warehouse and wanted to use them up.
In answer to your question whats the difference. Not sure. I have never looked into it or cut one in half to inspect the inside as I use exactly what the book says to use.
I will make a point of cutting some up next time to inspect the inside.
Stay tuned.

My gu is a 2000 model and the filters are different. One is cheaper than the other.
I use after market filters and find them ok.
I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

Cheers Dodg.

One is full flow and one is bypass type. You MUST use the ones specified for your vehicle as the threads are different.
