Hi fellow tourers,
I am touring South & West Victoria to Balarat,
Halls Gap,
Grampians and Great Ocean Road and am towing a 22' caravan (2200kg) with a 4.2 (non turbo) Troopy. Is there any section of the main road which is very steep or narrow that I should be aware of ?
Many thanks
Sang

Sang,
Take your time, keep to the left and enjoy the scenery. I was going to say my old rule that caravanners should be on the road between 1 am and 5 am but Heather said she would kill me. You would miss the scenery........

Sang,
That is a part best done in daylight for the kangaroos at dusk or after dark. The scenery is superb up the main road, the right
fork after
Dunkeld rather than the Victoria Valley Road. Not that I would'nt drive it but it is a slightly lower grade road and worthy of a side trip without the van.
From
Halls Gap I would avoid taking the van on the Mt Victory road although many do (it's twisty and steeper). It has many beauty spots and can be visited from
Halls Gap. It is a lovely area and many surprise lookouts. Do plenty of side trips and roads marked as gravel.
If you go soon there will be plenty of
wildflowers too, many indiginous to just the
Grampians area. I hope you and your party can do some walks too while you are there.
Happy tripping

ther are a few steep parts along this road especially if you try to cross from the main road to victoria valleyy side thru
the gap (cant remember name its been a while ) it is a good road thru there though and even a tojo should be able to get thru even though slowly LOL
steve
ps goodday john how are you and heather going I would probably stand on your big toe if you told me that about the van have you been reading that piece from the land of poms that somebody wrote vans should only be allowed on the roads between midnite and 5am LOL

Steve, we are
well thanks, just hope that you and Denise are too. Have had my toes trodden on before mate. I would never admit to doing the same myself........
Was pleased you had a great trip earlier. Heather and I went to WA and got home last Monday week. True to form like to meet
Forum members and met with Melissa for a quick meal and Doug up the mid North Coast. Was really good as I have previously expressed to meet up, especially with Melisssa and her contributions on the
forum and her site too.

Thank you all for your advice.
I'll be travellingfrom
Ararat to
Halls Gap via Moyston and
Pomonal. Stop at
Halls Gap for a few days to do any side trip. Then down to
Dunkeld thru the National
Park. Once again stopping at
Dunkeld for a few days and side trip. Does this sound OK for my Troopy and van setup ?
Thanks again

Sang,
as Eric says below it will be a bit of a slow trip with your Troopy and there is a bit of a trap behind caravans. There should be plenty to interest you no what your interest. If you like wine there is the wine areas near Great Western and
Ararat in
the Pyrenees, the Royal Mail Hotel in
Dunkeld great for meals.
The South Australian wine areas a couple of hours west of the
Grampians. Your earlier suggestion on the Great Ocean Road too has plenty to offer even west of the Ocean Road at Warrnambool and
Port Fairy. I hope you will enjoy it Sang.
