Does anyone know if you can use the max air compressor for diff lockers? Also repco i've seen repco selling a max air look alike (maxxi trak) for $299 includes steel box tyre repair kit and electrical spares kit.

Regarding max air prices. I noticed the genuine article at a local camping store the other day for about $50 less than 4WD stores. Makes you wonder .. then again, heaps of the same gear can be bought much cheaper elsewhere. They must have a good retirement fund.

As for diff lockers .. can't see why not. They push out more air.

Cheers

Do the max airs have a tank on them? I can't remember, if they do, a couple of mods would make it work, if not, you'd need a seperate tank to make it work wouldn't you??

No you cannot run the Max air for Lockers . The max air is desighned to run 72 l a min fast flow with only 150 psi aprox . The ARB compressor is desighne do run at 200 psi to jam the lockers in

Eric, does the ARB compressor charge it's tank to 200psi?
That's a hell of a lot, my 240v compressor at home only charges to 120psi.

If it only charges to 120psi then you could probally put an air tank on the max air with a pressure switch and use it.
Do you have a ARB that you can check for us Eric?
I was also wondering the same thing by putting and air tank on my blue tounge. (could also use it to run air horns hee hee).

100 psi is ok to keep the locker in place , it was explained to me that it needed the 200 psi to engadge the locker. I use a arb for the locker (under bonnet ) and a max air for tyres , no tank needed , its fast as hell . If you do fit a tank , make sure you have a shut off valve , the tank is good till it runns out of air . Then you have to sit around waiting for it to fill. So hit it with tank then shut of for dirrect supply from compressor

I'd reacon at 200psi you'd nearly be blowing your seals & axles out.
My big 240v comp at home also only runs up to 120psi, that's plenty for all I want to do, can't imagine a little comp huff'n & puff'n to push up 200psi. I wouldn't like to be standing beside it if it went bang.

Yep, in fact I've been told that not much over 110 is pretty dangerous for the seals and been advised to fit a blow off valve in case the pressure switch should fail.

Yet another comment regarding prices of Maxi Air!!!

This 72 litres p/m compressor seems to be sold under numerous different names and prices. Big W at $89.00 for compressor, hose , gauge etc in a bag. The 4WD shops for exactly the same at $190.00 and also at the 4WD shops an exact same compressor with a guarantee of I think 5 years at $399.00! Plus as mentioned above, Repco with a few extras. I bought one and they work well. No complaints except that I only found the item at BigW after I paid $198.00!!!@@@###$$$%%% at a 4WD store.

They are not exactly the same, take photo of one, then take a photo the other and compare.

Big W, Repco and Supercheap seem to be very similar.
However,
Max Air, Ebay Special and Mega Grunt are different again, and these are only the ones I have inspected first hand.

Yes you can use the max air compressor to run the lockers but you need to buy:
Wiring Harness, Pressure Switch (80 cut in - 100 psi cut out) and on/off switch.
You also need an air tank with an 1/8 BSP fitting for the locker solenoid, 1/4BSP fittting for the pressure switch.

It can be done but far easier just to use the ARB compressor which comes with everything for $280.00. If you have to pay for the pressure tank and cannot make it yourself then it would actually cost more to use the max compressor.

Note lockers only run between 80 to 100 psi no more.
