All,
I have just returned from a 18,000Kl Trek to the west and back which was unadventual other than a couple of broken Ribs, 3 Tyres, Three Unis, One lost drivers door, (120 kL Tail Wind), 3 aerials etc etc. However The problem with the UHF Aerial was the most annoying, as the base 3mm Diameter section broke (Snaped off leaving us a problem). As we where Way Outback I had to purchase a new aerial at the cost of $100.00. Can anyone let me know where I can purchase spares for the offending 3mm Short base part. I realise that the Balums and the other parts are available, however the part that fails most is not. At least that is the situation as I see it. Can anyone help???
Thanks,

Gidday,I carry a stubby flexible (quarter wave) antenna when travelling.I have broken 1 s/steel 1 f/glass on bad corrugations. The little antenna works as good and if not better than gain antennas in some cases.

I agree with you totally. The guttermounted stubbie aerial on a ground independant base performs better than any aerial on the bullbar and its indestructible. I leave it on 99% of the time now. And the aerial costs $12!

Evening Terry

bleep er of a trip bythe sounds of it.

I am in the process of moving aerials from bull bar to a single gutter mounted ski bar.

I to have tried a number of UHF aerials and was seriously thinking about going to the AE409L for its fold down capabilities.

Guess what? not any more after your post. I am going to make my own swivel mount and use the trusty AE 4703.

Its the only one that has never snapped. Love it.

Thanks for your post highlighting the problem and just as an aside. Everyone I spoke to when trying to source a swivel mount from $WD industry to Marine, just shook the heads and respectfully suggested that I get a spring base that attaches to a swivel mount .

Have a good one
