Hi Fellow Forumites

Howie in post 16870 brought out a very important point when travelling in remote outback Oz.

Our family has been travelling outback for the last 30 years. The wife was taught how to operate the Radio, also completed a first aid course as well as 4WD course. The Children could read maps when they were 5 (The daughter still claims that this was to save her parents marraige), could operate the radios from when they were 8 and both could drive the 4WD off road from when they were 15, as well as having 1st Aid training.

It is important to have all those who travel with you know how the radio works were is the first aid kit, fire extinguisher.

I also carry a long wire which will work as an emergency antenna for the HF radio just incase the mobile is damaged, plus the EPRIB
