I recall a thread that suggested strong magnets could be brought at Bunnings. I must have looked in the wrong place, couldn't find any. Any ideas were they are?? I'm trying to work out a way to keep the door shut on my aftermarket glovebox in a GU patrol, in the air bag space.

if you have an old hard drive thats had it, take it apart and get the magnets out of that, they are about the most powerfull youll find, and they have a backing plate that has screw holes in it

Thanks Gajm I've pulled one apart. Your right, damn powerfull, I just pinched my fingers. They'll work perfectly, now I just need to work out a way to fit them to the glovebox.

No worries, they are potent arent they! just be wary that there are one or two types that can bleep ter when they hit together firmly.

If you find a system that works I'd be interested in the photo's. May-be top right hand and left hand lug of lid? Have a similar problem, doesn't fall open but does not stay shut the way I would like

Will do, I wasted quite a bit of time on the weekend trying to get the computer magnets to work. Had to cut off the top left hand plastic risers on the lid to get them to fit. Wish I hadn't now.

Did you try those magnetic catches they use for kitchen cupboards? They hang on pretty well.

Not yet. I thought of them but space and fitting to the lid is the real issue. I might need to go this way though as so far I've had no luck.

Thanks
