There was a post a while back (sorry Truckster- I really did try to find it) about staking sidewalls and what the Army do.
I spoke to a RAEME mechanic last nite- and the Landy 110 GP vehicles with trailers that are sent up North carry FIVE spare wheel/tryes. The vehicle & trailer have the same sizes, so the trailer carrys THREE spares & the Landys carry TWO spares.
And of further interest, the Unimogs are rated at 4 tonne carrying on road, and 8 tonne off road. They are more stable in the bush than on the blacktop.

Any idea what the ply rating of the walls of the 18 ply radials is? i use 2 sets of
wheels; radials for roads/tracks & 10 ply rags for scrub work - these handle like steel on ice on a wet gravel road but they do stop most mulga stakes. anyone got a solution?

Phil
Not sure, but enquiries suggest 6-8 ply for side walls.

Yep. Not bad for a 5.675l turbo 6 cyl diesel. 124 kw ... 520Nm
Pretty damn fine when you consider the GVM.
