goodday all
does anybody know much about the 7.3l turbo diesel cost of motor and installation cost into a gu
talking to a gentleman today he was telling me his mate uses f350 with the 7.3 and returns great towing figures and i was just thinking aloud just hope the missus doesnt hear me although it would suit her as the truck is supposed to sit on about 120ks and still pulling about 12/100and that would suit her lead foot

6.7 turbo into a gq and 80series is approx $12-14,000 depending on what else needs changing/modifying. this is in w.a. so wherever you are may be more or less than that. 7.3 is a good engine and somewhat more reliable than the 6.7 chev (wait for the disagreement on that one) but parts are not as plentiful though you can find some relief on the internet. if you really want the ford then the new 6.8l turbo is even better but as it is new then expect to pay heaps. current gq fitted with a 6.7l turbo towing a 2.45t caravan is returning approx 15-16l/100km and that is sitting around the 90km/hr area. that is pretty good. without anything and really taking it easy have been down to 12-13l/100km but that was just silly. using a everything its got has seen it up to 25l/100km but the petrol were over 40 so there is a hell of an advantage. don't forget you may need to look at diff ratios and then at transfer ratios and .................it could just go on and on and on and..........rgds

Phil G just did a simpson trip with one tagging along I think, [7.3 diesel F250] and it got 40lt per 100km.
Friend towing his boat gets 32lt per 100 from his F250.

The motor would probably cost over $20k alone.. its new, tis not common, and is sought after.

Only new in Oz. Been around ages in the States. In fact they don't even use it in their F250s anymore as they have a new 6 litre.

Our work F250s get great hwy economy (low teens) but drive it in the city and it will go past 20l/100k easy. They tow excellently and we have not seen the high towing fuel figures with ours. However ours only tow on the hwy. They aslo get good hwy economy when loaded up.
They are a huge motor though. I think you would be doing pretty good to shoehorn it into a Patrol.

Factor in another $5,000 or so for the 'golden shoehorn' treatment.
Is it being presumtuous to ask what sort of 'thingo' you intend to tow that would warrant such a beastie in the first place.
May need to tow an in line diesel tanker to feed the sucker.
