Has anyone ever been on or heard of the Lightning Ridge Bush Safari, we've just returned from a round trip to Townsville with a stop in Lightning Ridge.

On the way up there we heaps of 4wds in town all for the Bush Safari it's a fund raising activity. After talking to a local who participates, sound like a lot of fun.

Great to be back home, now to catch up on all the forum activity we've missed

Steve

For those who haven't been to Lightning Ridge before or recently there is a great Water Theme park for the kids. $5.50 with no time limit

We stop there on the way to my parents all the time, great caravan park on the way in, this time we spend two nights so we had a day to spend there.

It's an unusual place, we couldn't live there mainly because of the heat, but had a great day looking at the mines (underground and open cut). The guy at the walk through mine was showing us photos of the different in the town over the last thirty years, it's grown heaps.

We're planning on doing another two night stopover next time we go through to see the bits we didn't get to this time (see below the afternoon was spent at the hospital).

Not everyones cup of tea but worth a vist we think!!

Try the natural bore.. if I remember (was 15 yrs ago) its on the Walgett Road..

You can hone in on it by the stench that only is matched by tanks of Tallow

Hey Steve, glad your trip was fun, found why the Explorer was wheel spinning so much, it was in 2WD not 4WD, bloody Fords.

Great trip except for the two hours spent in A&E at Lightning Ridge hospital with Matt, he split his chin on the edge of the pool, not the pools fault someone was following his 15 year old brother and thought he could jump further than he could!!

Hi Steve

just got back tonight from the 21st Anniversary, Bourke Police & Community Outback Trek. Someone might correct me, but the LRBS is a spin off. We were in LR last year on our trek at the same time they completed their trek (safari). I don't know much else about them, but have been on 3 Bourke Treks along with my dad who's been on 6 so far. 70 vehicles last yr and about 80 this yr. Fundraising for RFDS and the Bourke Community. Full fledged ambulance and staff, sat phones with officials, mechanical support vehicle and band to play most nights at venues along the way. I could go on.
