Our first ever foray in a fouby was in 2002 in a Rented Rangie from
Rainbow Beach.... and being dead set novices we were nervous as hell about going up Freshwater Track.... but we attempted it and it was an absolute blast!!!! It's a bit
rock 'n' rolly, depending obviously on how chopped up it is or how long since being graded.. sand all the way with a few "fun bits"... we drove most of the in high range 4X4, changing to low range in a couple of extra soft spots.... average speed... about 15 k's/hour... Lotsa Fun!!!!!!! LOL... As always in sand... tyre pressures are the key! Keep the tyres down, the rangie was running 25 psi... we run 22psi on our Patrol off road.
We were staying at
Rainbow Beach, we drove down
the beach to Leisha Track, across to Teewah Bch.. up Freshwater Track to Bymien Picnic Ground, which is 3 K from the bitumen and then about 2 k to
Rainbow. Had lunch then drove BACK down Freshwater track, and then back to
Rainbow via the beaches.... it was a great day!

Hey Troy,
We regularly go there and were up there one week ago and it was great. We are based in
Brisbane so we go accross the
Noosa River on the ferry at
Tewantin and then drive the length of Teewah Beach to get up to Double Island Point/
Rainbow Beach/Freshwater etc.
The Freshwater Track is one of a couple that links Teewah Beach to the
Rainbow Beach Road and is just over 14klm in length. It is all sand with the last couple of kilometres as you approach the
Rainbow Beach Road having a bit of gravel as
well. There is a
picnic area along the track at Bymien and this is generally accessible by 2WD vehicles coming in from the
Rainbow Beach Road, but the rest of the track is 4WD.
The track was a little chopped up by the extra holiday traffic but it was still a good drive. Mostly H4 with a few patches of L4. The road is easier if going from
the beach towards the bitumen. About 25 PSI in the tyres works a treat.
You travel through some coastal heathland and as you get further in you go through some patches of coastal rainforest and the scenery is pleasant.
Just after you come off
the beach, there is a nice picnic ground for day trippers which has free BBQ's, fresh water and generally clean
toilets and is a popular spot to stop. A hundred metres further in you will see a turnoff to the Freshwater
Camp Ground and it is worth a look as
well.
All of your supplies such as fuel, food, ice etc are readily available at
Rainbow Beach.
Most of the other people you come accross will help out if you do get stuck and if you have a UHF the local RACQ monitor Channel 4 if you get desperate. Digital mobile phone reception is not good on Teewah Beach but once you get closer to
Rainbow Beach it improves.
I hope this info helps you out. The area is great and offers a good range of 4WD options.
Cheers

Most people use the track as the alternate route when the rocks at
Rainbow Beach are impassable due to tide or beach conditions. Often these rocks are impassable even at low tide. (I've also seen them passable at high tide). One night while towing a trailer down the freshwater track, we came accross a Diahatsu Terios, parked in the middle of the track. Doors were locked and no one around. Could smell a faint whiff of clutch. We had to drag it backwards with a strap to get around it and a bit further down the track came accross two girls walking on their own in the dark still about 5 kms from the
campground. They were glad to see us. It turns out they hadnt let down the tires (the sand on the track was dry and soft that day) but fortunalty they hadnt burnt out the clutch. We took them back to their car, aired down the tires and away they went.
You shouldnt have any problems, worst bit is probably the tree roots accross the track in parts which can be a bit uncomfortable, bump wise.
