Hi brumac,
I am running the following
1. Toshiba Satelite P3-700 Celeron
2. 192MB Ram
3. 10GIG Hard drive
4. OziExplorer
5. GPS Mouse
6. Stateview Maps
7. LPI Maps of NSW 1 - 7
8. Nat Map Mosiac
9. Nasa Satelite Maps
The above works
well and takes up about 5 GIG hard disk space running on Windows XP
I think any laptop with slower CPU might annoy you with slow running speed
Hope this helps

Not trying to be picky, just trying to clear it up a bit for the person who asked the question, but, A P3-700 is a Pentium 3 running at 700Mhz. It is not a Celeron (which is a cheaper version of the Pentium 3) as stated in the reply. They are essentially 2 different processors.

Hi Cruiser,
You are 100% correct about the CPU
Thanks

I have a 2.2Ghz celeron however I think it is the amount of memory which will give the most improvement once you go more than the required processor speed.
I had 256mb of memory but now 512mb. The maps load heaps quicker now.

If your running XP then you really want a minimum of 256mb just for that with 512mb preffered.
Also a Celeron processor will not be as fast as a Pentium 4.
