Anyone else had problems with Koni shocks. I had some supplied and fitted July last year and they have done 40 000 kms. One on the rear is leaking oil, and I suspect the other may start.

Warranty work wouldn't be too difficult except I have moved from Brissie to NT and there is no distributor up here.

What a pain in the butt.

Simon,

Contact the national distributor, Toperformance in Melbourne, and get their advice.

I know our local Pedders store also sells Koni, and they source them from Toperformance.

Thanks Savvas

I had sent them an email and have just been talking to them. They are very helpful. Apparently not much need for warranty work on Koni shocks which would accord with there good rep. We'll see how we go.

Simon

I have Koni shocks all round on a Troopy.

I live in melbourne and have spoken to the 'Koni Boys' in Vermont a number of times in relation to what is the optimum/duration for rebuild.

The Dutch guy that I have spoken to on these occassions told me that Koni's may 'exhaust' gas as a normal operating feature and by this He meant that a fine film may appear on the shock that in turn attracts dust.

This is normal and nothing to get concerned about.

However, if they wet and attracting the dust, then you are right in making the assumption that something is ' crook in Tallarook' .

He also told me that a rebuid, excluding structural damage starts at around $60.00 for new seals and re-gas, rising to $90 plus where the valves are replaced.

So once you get past this mark it is a toss up whether to buy new ones or not.

Ken..i had Roachies old shocks rebuilt at Top Performance. Sent them on Monday......Reconditioned and back to Adelaide by Thursday.....Cost $304. I organised my own freight from adelaide so if you pay for freight it would only be a bit more. So far......so good.

I had the front Koni shocks fail on a Hilux a while back. Turned out that the extra long travel meant that on full compression of the bump stops they were too long, blowing the foot valves out. Koni came up with a rubber ring inserted up inside the outer case to help soften the blow. Not sure of your car type but it may pay to check you have the appropiate length shocks installed.
Cheers Craig.............
