2nd that!

The ones that Dept. of Interior use and Outback seem to be pretty good. Don't know whether they are made in house or not...

Cheers.

I have a Engel slide for my 60 litre fridge, it is less than 12 months old and is very good.
Very well built, with no problems at all.

Some of the early models apparently are a bit flimsy.

My sentiments exactly John, I also have an Engel slide and it is very strong, and also quite heavy.

Holds my fridge full of goodies without any worries.
Had a slight rattle when it was first installed, but I fixed that by adjusting the rubber stoppers.

How early?
Mine is also 60 Litre and only 2 years old. I don't rate it at all considering how much it cost and Engel didn't want to know me when I spoke to 'em.

Gidday,I bought my slides from the ARB dealer here in Mackay for $99.They came in kit form so you can make them to fit any size fridge.
Work well for me.

No worries thomo,

I bought mine at one of the 4wd shows (Wandin I think) as it was a bit cheaper.

Cheers

I have bought one from TJM in Adelaide (main nth road) for $300. Sounds like alot but you get what you pay for. Very strong and comes out 100% of it's length, unlike some brands which only come out approx 70%.
Needs no support with a full fridge out it's full length. Can't remember the brand name, but it has an Aussie flag on the front of the slide.

Hi, I purchased a set of 100Kg heavy duty drawer slides from Galvins hardware in Perth and made the base from a piece of 9mm ply. Works great and cost a little over 100 bucks. Can send you pics off forum if you wish.

I made mine up from a filing cabinet drawer, one of the half height ones from a desk. I found it at the local dump. It works fine and certainly holds my 45 Waeco without any probs. I have to tie it down a bit with a stretch rubber strap to stop any rattles. The slides are easy to move and it comes right out for ease of access.

Cost Zero: except for a little welding.

Well just to add to the confusion. I have a 40l Engel on a Black Widow. Cost about $100.00. Had it about 12mths and no probs.

Out here in the capital city of Dust (Broken Hill) the biggest problem all my gear suffers from is just that, dust. Gets into everything. But a quick hit with the WD 40 before I put the fridge on it and all is well.

One concern I do have is that the handles on the Engel are bending from the tie downs. Anyone got ideas on that?

Yep, I found the same with my Engel, so I flipped them!! Now the tiedowns pull in the same direction as the handles, down!

The other option is to make up some brackets with loops instead of the handles, but the mounting points are still the same little m4 screws??

Matt.

Engel make a genuine accessory pack of 4 tiedowns that go under the handles and secure with the supplied slightly longer screws.

Mine cost about $12. I use 4 turnbuckles to secure it to the slide and it's rock solid.

There are even button holes stitched in one end of the travel cover for the tags to come out, you just have to cut the slit. I don't know why they aren't on the other end but two bits of offcut leather stitched in place by the local canvas blokes (Darche Swags) and the same at the other end now.

See my pics for the "tilting fridge slide for short bastards and their wives" and download drawings at
my fourbie page

Oh and the photos of the tiedowns are in the pdf if you download it. The ones on the link page show how it was set up before with the straps over the handles.
