Standard tires for the Lux (according to complience plates) are 255/75/15. I am finding it very difficult to match this size with any AT tire. Neither Coopers or BFG (my prefferred tire) come in these size and the 31/10.5/15 tire is apparently too wide for the SR5 rims.

All tires (that I have found) in 255/75/15 are a road tread and are not suitable to my needs.

Any tire knowledge and reccommendations would be greatly appreciated.

A mate had this exact some problem with his SR5. I beleive he ended up with a Goodyear of some description that was an A/T but looked pretty road biased to me.

He was pretty disappointed in the range.

Hi,
I also have a current model SR5, I have fitted Cooper A/T 31x10.50R15LT tyres,Had them fitted 5 mins after i drove it out the Toyota Yard. They fit fine and are still within compliance.

They standard tyres are apparently prettybleepty.

Cheers

If you have the standard SR5 chrome rims (15 x6.5) you are not insured as All tire manufacturers say that these tires can only go on a 7 inch rim or bigger. Insurance say the same. If you have the aftermarket factory supplied alloy rims that were on some models then you are fine as they are 7 and 8 inch wide.

Hey,
Yeah i have the alloy rims, i assume you have the chrome. I made sure when they were fitted they were still legal.

Sorry, assumed you would have the same.

Cheers

Hi,

I run Goodyear MTRs in 31x10.5. Yes they are slightly over size in diameter, but they have been no problems in this respect. I believe that 30x9.5x15 are almost an exact match for the SR5's, in diameter. Both 31's and 30's will fit fine on the 15x7 rims. My mate runs Toyo OPATS ATs (30x9.5), and is wrapped with onroad handling, and the slippery stuff offroad. I was amazed where he went considering they look like a road tyre.

Good luck

The standard SR5 chrome rims are not 15x7 they are 15x6.5 and according to 2 tyre fitting shops they will not fit 31x10.5x 15 tyres to them as it is outside manufacturing specs. After talking to insurance company these tires exceed the alowable width size and make policy invalid when making a claim. When the tires are new the diameter is a little over however after about 50% wear they come back into correct size. 30x 9.5 is a little under original diameter and as they get worn the milage and speedo reading suffers.

Hi Floyd,

I have the later SR5 with alloy rims. Just check in the garage, the placard says they are 15x7 but I couldn't find any markings to indicate that. Perhaps they changed in the later versions on the vehicles.

You are correct, they don't recommend that you fit 31's to 6.5 inch rims.

My mates 30x9.5s look slightly bigger than my 255/70s, perhaps its cause they are chuckier.

You can by ROH sunraysia rims for $50 each, perhaps that is an option, then run the 31's on a 15x7 rim.

if the rims are off 1998 on,they are 15x7.the standard tyre is 255/70 15. I have put 30x9.5x15 on mine as they are so close it doesn't mater. 31x10.5x15 will fit no problem.all my previous 4wd's had 15x7 rims with 31x10.5 as you will probably find most older cars have that set up.
