Should be a plate on your towbar that states max trailer weight and max towball weight.
My Hayman Reece says on my 97 2.6 petrol Rodeo
Weight 1800kg
towball 120kg
Never towed to max as I wouldn't think the 4 cyl petrol could.
My Rodeo also has different weights for: override brakes, electric brakes and no brakes. It is all in the manual.
I would think your diesel would do it okay. You see Jackaroos and Prados etc towing those size vans. You have about the same power (maybe a bit less) and less weight.

Hi Brian.
I have a 96 Jackaroo 3.1TD, it pulls like mad but the bloke that owned it before me towed horses behind it in top gear. . . . . . be VERY careful if you are going to pull the maximum weight behind your Rodeo unless it's an auto, use 4th gear ( I know this may be common knowledge, but it cost me $2000 for new transfer bearings!!)
Happy
trails mate.

G'day Brian,
I have a 1993 2.8l TD Rodeo with which I tow a 16' Windsor Off-Road Pop-top caravan. I have towed it up and down the
Gibb River Road, through outback W.A., all round the Goldfields, all round the South West and over East and back many times without any problems at all. I have carried out tests as to the economics of towing in 4th. and 5th. on flat stretches of the Eyre Highway and found no differences in fuel use, so I only go as high as 4th gear for towing to save overstressing 5th gear. Your model is good for 1800Kgs towing so you should have no trouble at all. I wish you and your wife many happy times travelling this great country of ours in comfort.
Regards,
Peter.
(p.s.) Where's that mud map you promised.

Your 3.0L will pull that no problems. My 2.8L and 3.0L make mincemeat out of pulling my 1800kg boat. Between 95-110km/h, I use overdrive with no drama's. Only when it's obvious the
hill is going to knock speed below 95km/h do I change down to fourth. If you can hold >95km/h in fifth without needing to hold the pedal hard on the floor, fifth is ok. That's what I've found with my two Rodeo's with no adverse effects.
btw the 2.8L is intercooled as
well so it's on par with me 3.0L.
Cheers,
Dion.
