Hi all,
anyone heard about what the government, elected by the people for the people, is planning to do with those of us on disability pensions??
the latest on nine msn news is that they are going to reduce the pension and get most of us who can/do work up to 15hrs a week back into the workforce to compete with those who dont have any disability.
how about those with cerebal palsey, ....etc. if anyone on this
forum is on disability pension, then may i suggest that they look into this further and send lots of mail to our elected representives to dissuade them from this course of action.
their reasoning for doing this appears to be the saving of about $235 million dollars by catching the fraudulant claimants. sounds like political b/s to me. i am all for catching the cheats but why make it a broad policy to further inconveniance our poor disabled pensioners.
i stand to be corrected if i have once again got things ar..e about but would welcome some discussion on this matter as their must be some pensioners on this
forum.
Regards
Bob

Bob,
No complaints with what you want to do
BUT go to www.pensioners.com to do it, not here
politics/religion etc on a good 4WD site
I hope not
Cheers
Shawn

Really nice replies guys -
well done, your mums should be proud of you. One would hope that one day you don't have to apply for the Disability Allowance. Also I am going to monitor your comments, and the next time one of you complains about fuel prices, access to parks for 4x4ing, or the pressure on Governements to ban 4x4's or bull bars, I will give you lot the exact same response you have given Bob. Things like this is not a political
forum, or go and tell some who cares. If you are going to give it, be prepared to take it.
2nd point, it is not an easy process to be given a disability allowance, normally lots of Doctors documentaation, plus an assessment by Centrelinks own Doctors is required before the Allowance is given.
If this is true, then the Government needs to be told, unfortunately there are not that many on the allowance to make enough noise - so the majority will loose out on this important subjuect.

Well said Big Trev.
This news disgusts me. Why don't they pick on big business dodging their taxes???
There is an old saying - a country gets the government they deserve. The only problem is some are going to get the crud end of the stick more than others.

Big Trev,
Is this a 4WD
forum or political
forum?
I know discussion points raised, vary at times, but politics and religion start wars and that is the last thing needed on this site.
It appears from your comments that a raw nerve has been hit, that being tha case, please don't come back slinging the stinky stuff at comments, made because you are passionate about this political point.
Raise it with your local member
Cheers

Thanks Big Trev,
The point is that this is news that M I G H T effect some who use this
forum. i notice that the article is now not on todays msn news.
My post was not ment to be political and i apoligize to any who were offended but i thought it was of importance due to a lot of people today being retired or on a pension of some sort including disability. even on a disability pension we can still enjoy travelling this great country in 4bys. i do hope that the majority of people do not have the misfortune to be disabled in anyway and have to receive a pension.
My apologizes
Bob

OK.. To Big Trev and others.... I agree...I was harsh...
Bob was explaining something that he was obviously bothered about and because it wasnt something that i wanted to see at the time i posted an inappropriate comment..
I am still not keen to see topics off of the 4wd categories but i can see how it ties in with pensions and travelling...
So i want to retract my previous comment with appologies to Bob....
Regards....

Good on you for at least having the balls to say you were in the wrong, it would have been a lot easier to just not come back to the post and ignore the comments....i was reading it and wondered what the hell the "0.40c" was....duh!
And
well done Bob H for being on the disability and still getting out there, too many simply say it's all too hard and curl up on the couch in front of the TV

Bob H,
If my comment appeared offensive it wasn't ment to be.
As stated no problems with your idea,
but there is enough crap (not saying yours was) on here at times without getting into politics, religion, etc.
Thanks for that Big Trev, but lighten up man, cause I'm a pensioner too.

As most of you will know I am Vietnam Vet who survives on a TPI pension...I have heard horror stories being circulated about disability pensions but look at it simply... there are just too many people reliant on these pensions to allow any astute government to cut them off. We tend to have long memories and it would be a very courageous Politician to loose his/her next reelection this way.

I have daughter in her early 20's who is on it, and has been since she mid teens with no obvious outward signs that she needs to be. The
bright people at Centrelink have been no help with this whole process, obviously the pressure is on them to get people off Disability onto other forms of Allowances. You wouldn't believe the shyte they put her through, even with bucket loads of evidence from Doctors and Specialists that she will NEVER work full time.

Big Trev - I hope it turned out ok. Things are challenging enough for some folk as is, let alone having to fight uphill against this nonsense. Persistence (if you can afford it) seems to be the way. This is what excessive privatisation can do to a human services industry. If we don't make them profit - they don't give a rats!

Hi there Bob
I hadn't heard that little titbit about the pensions but I am glad I have now though. I am on a disability pension as I have Ankylosing Spondyitis which is a degenerative bone disease and is only going to get worse. I am 33 tomorrow and my husband and myself got our 80 series partially because of my disabilty. I was having too much trouble trying to get in and out of our previous vehicle ( a ford falcon) it was too low and it was causing me intense pain trying to get out from so low down. By buying our cruiser I can now slide out of our car and also cope better cos it is so much easier to drive and park etc. We also got an automatic so it wouldn't hurt to change gears. I pat the dash everyday when I slide out of my cruiser without masses of pain and I curse the government everyday when I hear they want 4wds off the road and so on. So for ppl who were upset about pensions having nothing to do with 4wd forums...there you go
regards Sasha
