I own a '98 SE Jackeroo and want to put on some different tyres, currently it is fitted with the factory road tyres 245 70/R16. I want to put on the most aggressive off road tyre I can but still have a good road tyre.50/50 I guess. I have not put a lift kit on the yet, so needs to fit the normal suspension without scrubbing.
Any suggestions for this would be great.

Thanks The Jack

Hi,

I have a 99 SE Jackaroo. Last year I put Coopers ST's on my Jack 245 75/16.

So far I have done 20,000 km & I am extremely happy. I do some sand / forest roads & have just been to Cape York for a couple of months. No problem at all with the tyres. They are LT construction.

Still - most of my km's are on the black top & the Coopers are great especially in the wet. A little noisy at lower speeds but at normal speeds OK.

I've put 265/70R16 on mine without any probs.
The Jack hasn't been lifted or modified in the suspension.
I have no rubbing at all.
Tyres are the new Bridgestone 694's. Highly rec.

have a look here...

Dogart.. I to have the original 245/70R16's still on and am thinking of going to the 694's when the time comes to replace. Question is.. How much higher do they make the car off the ground. Reason I ask is that I already make it into the garage with a foreskin to spare. I reckon if I lift two/ three inches higher I will be scraping roof on garage door.

Depends on the size of the foreskin!!!!
No really, it won't lift the car that much maybe 1 inch max,
prob not even that.
Someone else may be able to give a better before/after measurement.

Not sure if you know but look here......

We have 7 Jackaroos in our fleet the original tyres (goodyears I think) all failed between 20-30K, one vehicle we put Geolanders on and have had to replace on a regular basis mostly staked, sidewall cuts, the others we have put BFG ATs on and have got in exess of 50K with no flats and have only ever changed due to being worn out, no complaints about noise or ride, BFG would be my choice

mate from my looking i came up with Goodyear MTR 245/75/16 1 inch diameter difference, ie. 1/2 inch lift Massive load rating - nearly double the stock tyres, but a slightly lower speed rating, 160 instead of 180 . But hey you can only go 110 max cant you ( wink wink)
