Sort of unusual request...
Would anyone in
Adelaide or
Melbourne (or surround areas) want their caravan
towed to
Perth for no charge?
Basically, I am driving from
Melbourne to
Perth over Christmas and could do
with a caravan. If someone needs one transported over, then we have a
win-win.
My requirement is that the caravan must be insured, no money change hands
(insurance requirements?), it must be a very good van (100% roadworthy, new
enough, big enough). My vehicle is a very capable tow vehicle (V8, 3500Kg
tow capacity), but no electric / ancillary brakes. Just the normal
hydraulic brakes.
Let me know...
email me at shaw@netplus.com.au
ps. I need to know very soon before I start booking accomodation!

Don't think you will get very far in this without an electric brake controller installed.
Most vans don't have override brakes any more.

On another
forum, someone suggested that Coroma and Freedom may be participating in a
camping & caravan show in
Melbourne. He said that the companies are trucking a few vans across from here. Maybe I can bring one home for them :)
As for braking arrangement, unfortunately I can't install electric brakes. I'm getting a new Touareg and the damn tow bar alone already cost a rediculous $1700 because of the hi-tech gadgetry (optical wires etc). I'd hate to think about electric brake controller.
Also, as I only tow the 6x4 trailer (no brakes) and a boat (override brakes), I can't justify spending more.
The Touareg has has massive brakes all round - 6 pots 330mm disc at the fronts. I realise it's not the same as trailer braking, but it should at lest help.
