As far as I know, it is still only desirable for travel one way.
The desired travel direction is from Lone Oak to
Malbooma.

Did Googs about 3 months ago. Track is 2 way but the unwritten law is south to North. 99% of cars do it the correct way. They said it's because of the shape of the dunes. If you drive slowly either way is ok, but South to North is the preferred way. Good
camping spots at Googs Lake and Mt Finke though people have made their own
camping spots on the side of the track. Not recommened though.
The gap between the Lake and Mt Finke is about right for a one day trip anyway!
Make sure you lower the tyres. Most dunes are ok but a handful are quite soft and because of drivers not lowering their tyres, there is deep ruts which means that getting a run up is out of the question, so these dunes have to be taken quite slow for the
suspension to work.
Enjoy the trip.

Travelled through there two weeks ago - still two way, although most do it south to north. Use a sand flag, UHF on Ch 18, and stop on the top of dunes and look occasionally. Dunes are very easy, would be even easier if it wasn't for people not lowering their tyre pressures enough!
Cheers
