I was talking to Eric today about the trip and he asked me if I had a flag.
Dopey me said what's a flag? Eric informed me that you need a long flexible stick sticking up above your car with a flag attached, so that others can see you coming up the other side of a dune so you don't have a "head on" ot the top of the dune.
He told me to get a "wog pole" from a fishing tackle
shop, which is about a 7 metres long telescopic squid pole, to which you secure a flag.
If you're going to
Robe and don't know of this, I suggest you invest in one. About $30 from a tackle
shop.
Thanks Eric.
Cheers,
Jim

Getting
mine ready too Jimbo though not quite that long. Will be over 4 metres from the ground. Old UHF base antenna and an extension. Willies 'wog pole' did look long to try to control.
The pole is a good option to the sand flag or dune flag available from TJM and OL stores and the like at $100 or more.
You may feel a dill getting one but they are of use in such free driving/low visability dune conditions. Used a fishing rod on the Simpson trip but fine tips can break off.

Yepppppppppp, Happy to spend $45K plus on vehicle, why not spend $100 on a proper dune flag. I bet not many spend $30 on a compressor at K Mart, but happily spend $300 at ARB etc.

I guess Mr and Mrs Peter every one wants to know what a 'proper' dune flag is. When they see the price of $100 + for $15 of materials it tends to drive innovation to avoid anothers margin and if a wog pole has a use for catching squid as
well even better..... I will ask for lessons though ;-)

I've got an 11m fishing pole but that's getting put to good use fishing. I use a length of 15mm electrical conduit cable tied to the bull bar, cost about $5 and has not failed me yet.

Warren for sand driving I reckon you'll need a flag, long handled shovel, air compressor and snatch strap at all times. A couple of hessian sacks (or similar) are also handy to put under the
wheels as a traction aid. There wil be plenty of snatch straps and compresors available I'm sure, if you get stuck. Just turn up, have fun and enjoy.

Lyn,
That is something that will make your 4by taller than Al, Troopy
John too for that matter.
Looking forward to enjoying a few drinks with them again. We may need Eric to teach us the other use of the wog pole though out the long pier at
Kingston. I may get one after I knew how to use it.
I reckon we aught to get a visit from Baz too though all the way, just to show he knows how to get 4 by 4 on the Exploder.

I wouldnt stress to much about the wog pole . There are 17 or so cars going , so I am sure most will have there polls up . I think we will be spotted from
Melbourne lol
Plus dont be to disupointed if we dont get to much 4 wheel driving in with so many cars . We will split up into groups and go from there .
