Ok after lots of questions I'm going to mount the CB in a dashboard pod with my GPS on top of the pod.
Questions:
1. Where is the best place to get + and -ve connection?
2. I had a look behind glovebox and I have some spare wires! I have a 1mm thin black one that goes up to a black box on the LHS above glovebox and the other end just hangs loose behind glovebox!!. And, I have a 2-3 mm red, green and blue (I think I can't recall now) ones that are just hanging down loose on RHS next to stereo - what the hell are they for?!
3. Is it best to feed aerials through LHS top or LHS lower wire grommets from engine bay?
Why can't manufacturers leave a blanking plug to feed aerials through and a spare plug!?! Give me strength, this'll take me weeks.
I look forward to feedback.
Mike

That black wire that exits a black box and hangs might be an antenna for your remote central locking/immobiliser?

Gday Mike
I fed my wires straight to the battery, that way I always get a good permenent connection, wiring up the radio , also depends on whether you want it key operated all not, get yourself a simple power tester a pen like screwdriver with a light in it , push it into wires if it lights up its a power lead.
Regarding your coax, it dont matter which side it comes out of the firewall, which ever is the easiest for you'
that wire hanging loose , I would say is for your remote to your imobilizer

Mike,
On my last 2 4WD vehicles, (currently 100 TD) I have run a positive wire straight from the auxillary battery to a fuse block (blade type with 6 or 8 outlets fron Auto 1 or similar) hidden under the dash on the passenger side. Once this is hooked up you have a very easy point to pick up power for accessories like UHF, GPS, car phone, etc.
The benefits are:
*you only need to run 1 power wire through the firewall
*you can leave the accessories on without the ignition on (& not flatten your start battery)
*easy access to fuses for each accessory
*neat and tidy and quick
*no need to mess around trying to find a suitable power supply
If you hook up a phone car kit you will usually also have to find an ignition wire (i usually use the cig lighter) to hook up also, as they usually require both power all the time and an ign connection.
As for running the aerial wires, I can't remember which one I used but I think the answer is whichever one is the easiest to access from both sides. I recall having to push
mine through towards the edge of the grommet as I think in the centre there was like a double layer which was difficult to push through, worked fine. Just push a stiff wire through the grommet and tape your wires to it, then pull through from the inside.
Just on another note, can anyone tell me if the current model L/C 100 TD has a radio mute wire which can be hooked up to a car phone kit.
Hope this is of some assistance.
Cheers, Stuart

The little thing would be a relay. You use the negative output on the car kit (mute wire) to trip a relay. You put the relays other normally closed contacts inline with the radios accessory wire. So when the phone rings the radio turns off.

Stuart,
If your radio is a double din (radio/single CD unit) Fujitsu it will have a phone mute output. Looking at the rear of the radio the larger output socket pin 14. Bottom row second pin in from the right.

Treading Lightly,
It is the double din unit, but it is the 6 disc in dash cd player (current 04 model), I wonder if it is still the same ?
Thanks for the info.

Run an earth to the nearest bolt to the car body you can find, then run another wire out the firewall with your coax to a fuse then the direct to the battery. (aux bat if you have one, otherwise to the starter).
CB shouldn't be hooked up to your accessories, you want it on all the time when out bush and even if you leave it on 24/7 it would take weeks and weeks to flattern your battery.
