It may seem like a stupid question but, has the front tail shaft been removed? We hired a suzi on the gold coast a few years back. I got a flat and while I was locating the jack, I noticed the tailshaft was missing. I rang the hire company and was told it was to stop people going off road. If yours is ex hire, that might be a good place to start. If it's new take it to the dealer.

Most Suzukis have a plastic joint thingy(can't think of the name right now) at the base of the 4wd gear lever where the lever goes into the gearbox. They can break and dislodge which will either lock the gearbox into whatever range or not shift the vehicle into 4wd. Lift the carpet, remove the baseplate above the gearbox and have a look see if there is any damage there.

As said before, have you checked the front tailshaft?
