We are going to be travelling from the Northern territory through
Kununurra and doing most of the Kimberleys next April. I have noticed in a National 4X4 magazine that quite a few
places are starting to charge to visit with
Mitchell Plateau being a prime example with a $50 per vehicle fee. Does anyone know of any others and any areas that have been closed off in the last 2 years or so.
We will also be travelling down the coast after our stay and then driving across to South Australia via the Gunbarrel Hwy, do we need any permits to travel this route. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Do a search of this site for up to date information...Trip planning, Trek Notes etc
Life in the Outback is become more and more 'User Pays' as Landholders are capitalising on getting something for nothing. Them are the breaks. Pay up or stay at home.

For
Kimberley - yes MP is $50 payable to land owners but I don't know if they've started collecting yet.
Affirmative for the permits re Gunbarrel.
As Willem stated all the info you'll need is right here on this site including permit information. You can even buy actual permits through the
Shop.
Hope this helps

Glenn,
Wife and I will be leaving
Kununurra late April to do GRR and
Mitchell Plateau.
We may see you there.
We did the Gunbarrell this year in June, and permits are required.
We had to have a minmum of 3 and maximum of 5 vehicles to get the permits.
Another good alternative is to drive back across the Anne Beadell Hwy, more to see. Still require permits though. But one vehicle is all that is required for this.
Geoff.
