Hi everyone

my suzuki sierra wont lock into 4wd. My front tailshaft has not been removed as someone suggested, it is still there. All my 4wd gears work, low and hi range, but my front wheels wont lock in. Could it just be the hubs? My right hub is nice and loose to turn, but the left one is tight as.

Thanks alot
this forum is awesome, and everyone has got patience with people who dont know much about 4wd's (me). Thanks anyway for any help or suggestions.

Hi,

I have had a look through your threads but I don't see anywhere that you have actually told us how you know it isn't driving the front wheels.

Put it on grass or sand and drop the clutch. See how many marks you leave on the ground.

If you don't have lockers or a LSD then I would imagine it would only be 2. As only 1 front and 1 rear will spin.

If you can get the vehicle off the ground totally (hoist or 4 chassis stands). Then perhaps you could try locking the hubs and turning the drive shaft by hand when in 2wd. This would show which side of the driveshaft the problem is on.

put the hubs in with the t/c in 2wd and try and spin the front tailshaft by hand if it spins then you have a stuffed hub - note it only takes one stuffed hub to lose your front wheel drive as the drive will go to the stuffed one. if ok take hubs out and engage 4wd and try and spin tailshaft again if it spins look at linkages after that it starts getting xpensive. If both tests result in a locked tailshaft then there is no problem
