We are planning a trip (4 weeks ) from Brisb through the centre next year during Sept & Oct. We intend to spend 4 days in the Flinders Ranges in October which you guessed it coincides with SA school hols. I would appreciate any feedback as to whether Wilpena Pond gets as busy as Fraser does durung school hols.
Cheers

Never been to Fraser. Was at Wilpena on our S A long weekend, which also coincided with School Holidays.
Yes, it was busy, but it copes well.

I didn't actually camp at the pound, we were away from it, and it was quiet at camp.

Don't know if this helps...

Cheers

Thanks Wolfie,
Can you provide details of the campsite?
Last time we were there we stayed at a sheep station called Merna Mora whose picture perfect billabong was complete with dead sheep!
Hence our thoughts of staying somewhere else.

September/October is the busiest time of year in the Flinders. Good weather, school holidays, art exhibitions, bush cooking etc. Mobs of 4x4 travellers. Wilpena Pound Resort will be as busy as anywhere during that time. The only things that will be more prevalent than humans are the flies....Have fun :O)

If you are a bush camper, and really want to see the pound, camp elsewhere and do a day trip in there. People I know who were there recently were swamped by smoke - hoards of campers, all having their fires and no breeze.... too busy for me but good for kids..... er.....be warned.....the north bound bitumen from Adelaide finishes at Wilpena.... so anyone and everyone can drive in there without getting the chariot dusty.

We will be coming from Simpson then Birdsville so we were looking at giving the chiefs some "up market " acommodation. From your, and other responses we are now thinking of starting the trip 2 weeks earlier to avoid the masses of people and flies in the Flinders.
