Just reading another post on here about air bag suspension I also discovered the website reffering to a great range of small to large air tanks as well, if anyone's interested about $30 US for small tanks that would suite a 4by for lockers, horns etc.
They also do larger ones.

I'll post the website link again here: www.truckspring.com/

Also those firestone kits look awsome, $70 US for the surf, gotta be a goer!

Importing from US isnt as cheap as you think, I freight a bit of stuff reguarly $25us for freight and insurance for this.

Wife just send a parcel, a box of the kids crap back, $36us...

The tank you say for the surf, $70us - ~$95au + Freight etc... You could still do better at a truck wrecker and a larger volume tank...

Truckset, it was $29 for the air Tank, $70 was for the poly air complete kit for the surf, still cheap in my books!

Oh yeah, did you look at the site? They sell truck parts, including larger volume tanks....
I range the only truck wrecker I could find in Perth and they were talking between $50 and $100 for a second hand one.
Still cheaper to bring one in with my poly airs.

Plenty of truck part suppliers in Aus.
Do a search here for the same stuff, no import hassles with pressure vessels etc.

Cause you will get hit with duties on it too.. which will kill any savings.... Plus warranty issues..

You cant get poly airs in aussie for it?

i did excatly what you are discussing a couple of months ago Jeff as i couldnt find anything decent here in perth.
I had the tank and polyairs sent by surface mail- not air freight and thus avoided any duties or additional taxes.
The waiting time was 10 weeks though- i wasnt in any rush!!
cant fault the service of the guys at Trucksprings.

Duties my foot! You shouldn't have to pay duties on that kind of value for personal use, hell I don't even pay duties on that sort of value for business when I import!
Worst case just put it down as a warranty replacment part or similar.
Yeah I can get poly airs for my Surf in oz, but not a complete kit for AU$99 I bloody can't!

Gotta agree with you on Trucksprings. I got some Firestone air bags from them, all up around $160 incl postage. Pretty sure it was airmail as I did not have to wait long for them to arrive. I do seem to recall it costing me about $160 AUD all up which I thought was reasonable. They are still working well after 6 months of pretty hard work, and apart from a "pinched" airline early on, have been faultless. I blame the airline problem on my installation.

Thanks! I have just been thinking about this latley as I put my 52L water tank in the surf on the weekend, plus I want a long range fuel tank in the future and the "heavy duty" springs I had fitted were not that heavy duty IMO. Poly airs should solve the problem I guess.

Yep i have posted in the past on truckspring, i got quoted a set of airbags and a thomas compressor(sold as a big red here) delivered for less than the airbags alone here !! Great prices and gear. There are a few other mobs as well like airbagit.com that have the compressors including the big boy that a few 4x4 mobs sell here for $550 for about $200. Hey i'm all for supporting the local guys - BUT not when its obvious how much markup they are running on identical items.

Support your local...

talk to your local supplier and let them know you can get it at that price. Strike up a deal to meet him half way of the difference. Or allow him to import them for everyone to give everyone a better deal.
You still get a good deal, he still gets customers and turnover and you feel so much better about supporting your local and enjoy a future business relationship.
Do you know what taxes he has to pay for his stock or are you sure they are ripping you off at the price they quoted?

I've been importing gear on a professional level for a few years now and I can see how much markup some of these bastards are making, I sell my products for $100's of dollars less when they are better and I still feel bad that I'm charging so much. Stuff them, if they are going to be rediculously greedy they can go jump. Sure if I was talking 10-20% difference, but bloody way way over double the price. Get real...
Not only that but like all 4wd products I've priced they seem to all sell for the same outragous prices. It's about time the illegal price fixing game in the 4wd market is stopped!
Just my 2c.

I'm a strong beliver in paying for what you get, and I'm a strong beliver that good service does not come cheap. But guys, I just want to buy some poly bags and put them in myself, If it breaks, I'll buy a new one, just take my money and give me the stuff, not much required there.
If there was a product that was $50 more expensive and I could see a good reason, I'd probally go the more expensive product, but for something that's the same paying double the price so some importer can sit pretty in his flash house by the pool while I'm crawling around someones hot roof pulling cables to pay for it, no thanks.

Thanks Jeff,

point taken,

I guess it is the same for most parts we look for to enjoy our interest. Is it worth doing the search for most/all after market and replacement parts or is it just a minority of parts etc that are price loaded?

LOL. You dag!
Mine doesn't know yet, I expect to get some questions about the $210 I spent when I get home today.... :-)

Still not bad for an air tank and a complete poly air kit for the 4wd plus air freight.
Could have saved about $35 for economy freight but did'nt want to wait 2 months for the gear.
