Who can tell me the power difference between the Nissan 2.8TD and the 3.0TD. (Not the latest model that has just been released as it is claimed to have a slighly higher kw rating.) Is the 2.8 a powerful enough engine for such a heavy vehicle or should I stick to looking at the 3.0lt.
I am not looking for powerful tow vehicle either as I know the 4.2TD is the way to go for that.
Interested in your feedback.

the 2.8 is a slug.

Comparing the 2.8 and 3.0 chalk and cheese.

They may be similar in cubes, but in reality they arent.

The 4.2 isnt just the way to go for towing.

All real 4x4's are slugs, some more than others. If one wants great performance then buy a performance car

C'mon Truckie the 2.8tdi is not that bad. Mine now has 160000km on the clock and it has taken me and my lot to Cape York and back twice with not one single problem with the vehicle mechanics, reliability or willingness to go anywhere I wanted to go. It has also done numerous trips into the Brindabellas and Victorian High Country without a hicup. I will admit it is a bit of a slug at low revs but select the right gear and get the right revs it will go anywhere......and on the open road it is second to none. And, all this while returning a fuel consumption of 12.3 ltrs/100km average over the last 20000kms at time running an all up weight of 3.2tonnes (c/w a tradesman oval steel roof rack).
So all in all I think the Patrol 2.8tdi is not too bad - there are better I guess but this one does everything I need.

Dave,
Mine has just had its 200,000K service and NOTHING has blown up yet! From memory power difference is 85Kw for 2.8 and 114Kw for 3.0. If you want more power just put a chip in it for around $1500, more power, same fuel usage.

David - I believe that the 2.8 tdi puts out 96kw without the chip. Don't know what it does with one fitted though.

I agree with Patrol22, mine has 120k on it and has taken me everywhere I wanted to go with no problems. Did a recent 10k trip with a Kanga Camper and was very happy with the way the rig ran. It is the same as other vehicles, you just have to know how to drive them
