I've read the threads on air compressors & the current 4x4 magazine article. I had sought of made up my mind of which air compressor I might purchase. At Repco I saw that they have a Maxi Trac 4WD super heavy duty air compressor (150psi,72l/min) kit with steel storage box, emergency electrical kit & tyre repair kit all for $299. It looked OK. Anyone got any experience with these?

G'day Sparky,
see post (ID?) on these 22 Aug 2004. Would trust GO_OFFROAD on his summary. Looks like a Bushranger copy i.e. a good one.
Shop around though, you know what REPCO stands for eh?
cheers.

From what I've heard/read these are the closest thing you can get to a Bushranger Max Air. They have the same setup (filter at the top etc). I have a SuperCheap Auto copy which for my purposes works really
well.
Jeff M (WA) has done quite a bit of research on compressor just recently, hopefully he'll reply. (hope you don't mind me mentioning your name Jeff)
Cheers

The Repco one is deffinatally not the bushranger, the "Mega Grunt" avil at Opposite lock and Auto Pro stores seems much more like it with the air filter at the tope of the cylinder and the rubber covers over the switch and the air outlet.
The Repco one looks just like the Big W $89 job and the Supercheap $179 pump.

Its a rock and a hard place.
Why would repco have good quality 4wd gear? They are a generic 'everything' place.. they wouldnt sell much 4wd gear so wouldnt keep the premium gear in stock. most 4wd accessories I've seen are cheapy quality... Not saying you can't be lucky.
Then if you buy from a 4wd
shop they charge you up the china cause they can due to the unsuspecting ones...
I have an ARB compressor. The ARB is mounted under the drivers
seat, and isnt the fastest on earth, but I'm not racing a clock. It will do 4x34 Simex's from 14psi to 34 psi no problems.
Having said that check the trader section for the ones Eric is selling at the moment. I have one of them as
well, and it works a treat.. I didn't get off him though. Had it for quite a while now. Its a excellent backup. Will pump 4x33 MTR's from 18psi to 30 psi but seems takes quite a time longer.
And usually someone elses dont have a compressor so lend them the bushranger...
If I was buying again, I think I would go a ARB, Big Red, or the Blue Tounge. Pay for a good one, it is worth it. Would suck not to be able to pump up the air bed! LOL
