Hi guys,
Just bought a
Southern Cross Canvas tent second hand (8yr old) good nic but
well used. Is there a treatment that anyone could recommend that would help restore/aid the canvas? I have been looking for ages and bought a Ultimate deluxe for $650 from the trading post and are really glad we waited. Could anyone give me an indication if this is a good price for one of these (I feel I certainly didn't get ripped off) and in 8 yrs has much changed with the product that would be worth doing now.
Read all the debates on the canvas tents/Dome etc. Just glad to get a quality tent secondhand.
Cheers,
Tim

First of all put the tent up in the backyard on a hot day and scrub it inside and out with one of those car wash brushes that fit on the hose (little hand held type not the whirlygig ones) paying particular attention to seams and corners etc.
You will find that this will make a huge difference as dust and dirt wicks moisture through the canvas.
If the canvas is still not waterproof use Birkmyres waterproofing and follow directions, I applied it with a brush when I used it once on aprevious camper trailer.
My cub Campomatic is 16 years old and has spent nearly 3 months of every year outback and gets pretty dirty. The annual scrub restores it to total waterproofness and I've never had to apply any Birkmyres yet.
