Pesty,
Not sure I understand? If he has to make up an adaptor cord (presumably with a standard male cigi plug on one end and a female Hella recepticle on the other end), would that defeat the purpose of trying to overcome the not-too-secure fitment of the standard cigi plug in the first place? Would be best if he could open up the Waeco power box that has the female standard cigi socket, and replace that socket with a Hella socket in the box itself??? Possible?
Cya tomorrow...

The power pack has both cig socket and screw terminals. I will try making up adaptor from screws to female waeco plug.

Brew, I did a post on this very thing a few weeks ago.
I bought 10 Arrid Combo plugs. best thing I ever did.
Do a search on ARRID on this
forum, and all the details are there.
Cheers

Waeco cord comes with a hella plug standard. You just twist the red bit on the end of the lighter, and it converts from a lighter plug to a hella plug.

Mickeyj..the waeco plug fits a hella plug socket but it is not a hella plug. The hella brand plug is rated at 30 amps....the waeco hella plug is rated at 8 amps and can overheat and blow the fuse as it moves when the car is offroad.

Stu.....
This is the prime reason I chose the Arrid.
16 Amps, and it has two side prongs, which give a superior srface contact within the socket, therefore lowering resistance, and as we all know, resistance is futile.....

There's no way a hella plug is rated at 30 amps, www.hella.com.au has them listed at 8amp max at 12V. The mounting holes for the cable in those plugs is not very big either, physically impossible to get cable rated at 30amps into one of them. Although I do agree the hella plug is a much better plug than the Waeco one.

Brett,
I have some heavy wiring running the cargo area of the patrol. There is a Hella socket and a ordinary cigi socket fed by this cable. The Hella plug then has a lead going to a New Era relay mounted on my cargo barrier. In turn, this relay supplies power to my MaxAir compressor, my 40 litre Engel/ARB fridge and a double cigi socket occasionally used for flouro lights etc. The other cigi socket (mentioned above) also runs a flouro light when needed. Now it is rare inded that all these things would be on at the same time.....BUT....even the MaxAir on it's own is rated at around 30amps I believe; and I've never had any problem with the plug or wiring. The Max Air gets used virtually every day for a short period to top-up my air
tank for air horns etc.

You probably could run 20 or 30 Amps through them as they are a good quality plug but they are certainly not RATED at 30 amps, the manufacturer clearly states 8 amps max. I find the holes for the wires are a bit small too, I'd prefer to be able to fit a thicker cable in them, the sockets are the same.

A friend of
mine has a Waeco fridge and the 240v adapter for it. He melted his ciggy plug on his fridge lead so he bought a new lead and now uses the Hella plug. He then took his old lead and had me hard wire it into his transformer.
No problem now :-)

I've got a male Engel plug fitted to my Weaco lead and a female Engel fitted to the Cruiser.
Now I just screw the Engel cigarette plug back on to use the 240v power pack and the Engel screw-in plug give a good connection when travelling.
Alternately get a second Weaco lead. I don't think there that dear and there are no problems using them when stationary in the 240v power pack.
