Hi guys,
Can anyone tell me if the Zeka Spur Track is the most common entry point from the Howett Rd into the valley.
Another 4WD (with limited experience) will be coming with us towards the end of November 2004.
Any information would be much appreciated.
Regards
Kim

Kim,
Zeka Spur is the only track from Howitt Rd to Wonnangatta Valley. There are other tracks but they either come in further north or further south.
There are only a couple of steep sections and a few hair pin bends on the Zeka track that are not that hard. I do the track in low range, take my time and enjoy the view. I should be there in mid November myself.

Hi Kim,

I did the Zeka Spur Track in a L/C towing a Jayco trailer. IMHO, it's a bit tight in places but not really that difficult.

Thanks Wayne,
Drop me a line on kimmc@satlink.com.au Would'nt mind meeting up with you at Wonnangatta, to talk about some of your vehicle mods (particulary suspension).
My only concern is my mate's 4WD. It's an automatic which may (or may not) have some difficulty with the steep sections.

An automatic will do it TONS easier than you will in a manual.

What a lot of rubbish. Manual is heaps easier. 4L 1st gear and crawl down the hill. Don't have to worry about the auto running away from you. Auto is nicer of uphills though :-)

Actually its not rubbish at all.

An automatic will $hit on an manual EVERYWHERE.. but down hills, and a lockup kit will fix that. Auto is nicer uphills, thru bogs, creeks, crusing along flat ground, and just driving there in the first place.

Well we're talking steep sections here and a manual will definitly be easier. I think auto's are great in traffic also. Even with a torque converter lockup kit the manual will have shorter gearing. I don't think Kim's mate will be zipping out to get a lockup kit for the trip though ;-)

Hey Leroy,

He doesn't need the lockup kit. My L/C is auto and towing a 1.4t trailer down there, all I needed was a little bit of handbrake to assist the auto on the hairy bits.

I'll go with Truckster on this one - definately auto!

nah didn't recommend the lockup thing at all. He won't have a prob descending Zeka spur track. Just needs to take it easy.
The gearbox is a personal choice. Was pointing out that steep decents are more easily negotiated with a manual becasue of the gearing.

seen rav 4's xtrails, subaru outbacks, and land cruisers towing vans going in and out of there, even when wet.

Had a 80 with ultimate [auto] follow us out afew yr ago, on all terrains, in the wet, its just a bumpy road, not really a "4wd" track as such.

What appears easy to some is difficult to others as I've seen 3 cars rolled over on their side in the wet on Zeka spur. ;-)

Hi Truckster,
As a matter of interest, what is a lock up kit (automatic)?
