Hello All,

Any revheads out there old enough to remember what make of vehicle won Bathurst in 1964? Thought it might have been a Cooper S, but that may have been a year or two earlier?

Don't want to live in the past, but will use this point in a speech I have to make at end of week. Thanks in advance...

Google says it was Bob Jane in a Ford Cortina GT. That would have been the Armstrong 500 in those days.

Here is the definitive answer; I 've pulled out my old Ampol Sporting Records book. Bob Jane and G. Reynolds in a Cortina GT, 1964. In that year it was the Armstrong 500 held at Bathurst.

In fact it was won by a Cortina GT for 3 years; Bob Jane and Harry (Foxy) Firth 1963, Bo Seton and M. Bosworth 1965.

The Cooper S won in 1966.

Thanks Penguin, and Jim, have just been on google too, but '64 was only year I couldn't find.

The Race was a lot different in those days,eh. Would have had a big bearing on sales, for the makers of any winners.

1964 I guess would been the year that the very first signs of what would become the battle of the big 3 Chrysler, Ford and Holden and would result in that article written by Evan Green in 1972.

Would have loved to have seen the Chargers beat the Falcon..oh well just have to be content knowing they beat them over in New Zealand lol
