Hi Guys,
new to the
forum, but got a few 4wd q's for any FJ40 gurus out there.
Bought a 75 FJ40 a while back.
It has the standard Petrol 4.2 and 4 speed gearbox.
Love the car and even managed to score a full fibreglass body with the buy but as many previous 40 owners would know, the fuel consumption makes me want to weep (made worse by the fact that Im living in the Kimberly at the moment and paying about 1.22/litre).
Looking at ways to make the consumption a tad easier on the wallet.
Talked to a few ppl about it and from what Ive heard so far, putting a 350 Chev in it will apparently save heaps on Petrol according to 2 ppl who have done it before. Sits on a lot lower revs cruising on highway etc.
Anyone know how accurate this would be?
Would there be no need to put a 5Spd g/box in if I did this?
Any other suggestions on saving petrol?
Also looking at the need for a couple antitheft devices.....any nifty ideas apart from the usual immobiliser?

Pat99 from what Ive heard the 350 ci will do nothing for economy unless you can afford a gas conversion.
Looked at doing that in my FJ73 and it just aint worth the cost.
The best swap maybe a 2H diesel with 5 sp
I knew some
young guys in my area that had a 4.1 Ford 6 cyl in a 40that returned better fuel economy and could smoke the rear tyres.
I regret not actually having a drive myself or paying closer attention to the swap
These engines are cheap and probably a couple of hundred pounds lighter than the 2F

What is the fuel consumption you are getting?
I have a 4speed 2F in a 60series and do ~22l/100km around town on petrol, about 24l/100km on gas (dual fuel).
I use large tytres (285s) and high pressures (45psi). not too bad, I reckon, for such a heavy (nd old) vehicle...
