I am looking for some advice on what I can buy for around $20K. Admittedly the main reason for buying is to tow an 1800Kg trailer (horse float), but I am planning on doing some light off-road work as well as using it for everyday road transport. My current hit-list includes the following - NJ/NK or NL 2.8 TD Pajero, GQ patrol diesel (TD42) and Prado RV (I understand the petrol 4 is a suprisingly capable tow vehicle and cheaper to buy/run than the 6) I am really trying to stay clear of fuel munching V6 heavyweights ! . Any comments based on experiences would be greatlt appreciated.

Friends of mine had a GQ LWB Patrol for towing a double horse float - with the TD42 - and were very happy with it - they just upgraded to the GU after 260,000 trouble free kms. I have a SWB TD42 and avg 11lt/100km around town and light beach/track 4WDing. There are plenty GQs in the Classifieds...(don't forget the Ford Maverick - it's the same).
