Having just completed an 8,000 + km trip that got us to all internal state borders ie Cameron's, Haddon's, Poeppell's and within sight of Surveyor General's Corners we are in need of a
suspension upgrade on our 2002 Jackaroo (petrol). By the way it handled 53 degrees + in the Simspon for 2 days. Thank goodness for A/C and a reliable Engel too!
Any tips, suggestions etc welcome re the
suspension.

Ali,
I replaced my shocks after last year's trip to
Cape York with EFS shocks and I've found them to be quite good. I found the original shocks be quite poor which made the vehicle quite 'skitish' on corrugations. The EFS seem alot better but I haven't driven on sufficient corrugations to provide a true comparison yet.
No other mods apart from that.

IFS on the Jack needs good quality shocks or fade will set in after a short time, rear is not so bad. When I had
mine I went Monroe Gas Magnum (good value at the price, but would spend more and try Bilstien or Koni if I went again. Unless you are going bezerk with weight, just crank up the torsion bars an inch at the front and whack in a set of polyairs in to toughen up the rear. Good truck.
JMO from 120K over a few treks in a '98 Monterey.

I have just got back (2 days ago) from doing almost the same tracks as yourself.
Birdsville, Camerons Corner, Innaminkka etc etc. I had upgraded my
suspension because of a rough trip I have before like yourself to TJM XGS shockers. They were brilliant on the trip. I described my ride to my travelling companion as riding in a Mercedes! Found the car to be a bit "skittish" around town but once the car had a heavy load in it, it went like a dream. You will never have the best of both worlds (great with load and without).
Whichever brand you go for, just make sure it is a reputable brand name for 4wd'ing. Everyone will have their own opionions (Old Man Emu etc etc) but you won't be sorry with which ever one you go for. Good Luck.
