12 mth trip in a Nissan, but which one??

Hi all,

Would apprec some assistance.

We have decided to buy a Nissan to do a 12mth trip. Currently have an old rusted trayback (beach basher) but know very little of other models.

Could I get some opinions on what year & model etc to buy. Is there a stand out Patrol, where they got it just right, almost.

Specs required are:

Diesel
Auto
Towing camper trailer
Prefer not too much gadgetry. (Don't want electrics to kill me in the desert.)
Will be only the 2 of us... midlife crisis :))
Would like to avoid too older a shape.
Price range 30-40,000 (separate budget for mods)

Doing archives but thought this may save me some time narrowing down my research to a particular model/year.

Will be fitting full mods if not already done - suspension, dual batts, bullbar, winch, lights, snorkel, uhf, tyres, roof rack, draws, milford etc
