Has anyone had trouble with RV6 pinging?
Any success in rectifying it? There is some info from USA but not really relative to Aust. I would rather not run premium and/or octane booster as this is not available in many places out of the city.

Have you tried running on premium to see if the pinging goes away? Mates Suby wont run on anything else. (without pinging)

You'll find if you don't run it on premium it will most likley ping, even my 3 cylinder 850cc daihatsu pings on regular unleaded because it's poo. 91 octain at best is just pathetic, the cars are just not designed to run on that crap. Easy solution, run it on premium around town, keep a bottle of nulon concentrate in the tool box for when your out of town, you can probally get a couple of tanks out of one bottle.

Or... buy a diesel!! LOL Had to chuck that in as us diesel drivers have been coping it of late about the price of diesel, but it's not so bad when you look at the price of premium! ;-)

My 4 litre petrol troopy has a more notecible ping when I use Shell ULP. Other brands seem OK, it does not ping on Optimax. Maybe you can blend ULP & Premium to find the cheapest solution.

Actually funny you should say that, I have found shell ULP to be rather crap, even shell Premium was poo. Used to make my Motorbike run like crap, wouldn't even start if it was filled with shell premium.

Had a mazda bravo that did it...
common criteria....
warm to hot ambients > 35,

looking back on it the only thing different was the bull bar from new.....
a check against the original front plastic bumber reveals a bigger airflow aperture....never did get around to actually taking water temp in degrees C
but temp light never came on!!!

I now wonder if it was just a case of getting to hot due to lack of air over radiator?
