I'm not sure where Tongala is but we took advantage of the wonderful, free camping on the banks of the Murray just west of Yarawonga. Great spots everywhere.
You can get maps of the camping areas in Yarawonga.
Don't know if this is the same area as you want though
Cheers

some great spots near town but mayhem this weekend
maybe barmah forest its a nice lake area running from the murray just 15-20 mins the nsw denilquin side of echuca.

plenty of sites there its a natural flooding area with walks good fishing and a breeding area ( sorry for the murray cod that is !!).

the caravan and pub can get a bit noisy at night but the campsites in the bush are a little bit down the track from there.

do a vic parkweb search

hi bruiser I live at tongala and if you wanted to go to barmah it is free camping right on the river just next to the boat ramp.. there is a way to get there from tongala which is through the yambuna forest.. so let me know and I could take you over there.. I think we might be going camping there on that weekend...

Hi all we were up at Barmah forest about 2 weeks ago and the forrest is closed due to flooding maybe open now but will be wet under foot.

Also the river is closed to all fishing between Yarrawonga and Cobram until the 1st December, there is a nice camping spot on the river at Tocamwal called Apex Beach you could try that.

Cheers
