hi all,
i have seen a bloke in town running 33inch muddies on a 84 hilux,i was thinking of doing the same thing myself (i have an set of BF goodrich A/T's that are 33's and after having made a few calls i am told that the wheel size (sunraysias) is 15x7 or 15x8,does this sound right or would it be 16x7 and 16x8?the size of the tyres is 285/75/R16,and the current tyres on the lux at the moment are 205/R16,at the moment it is just an idea so i am still finding out about legal issues etc but im just wondering whther anyone has had any experience with a similar model hilux and can maybe help me out,the main thing i am trying to figure out is the correct size for the wheels.
cheers

285 /75 / 16 are not 33's more like 32 's to get 34 you need to get 255/85 /16

and if yo uwant 35's you need to go 315/75/16

255/85/16 will fit on a 7" rim no problems , but for the 285/75/16 you should get the 8 " rims

No matter what state you are in, 33's are not legal on a std lux without engineers certificate.

Yeah about $50. I paid $48 recently from a small local dealer. Unless you've had a power upgrade it will be a real slug on 33's....31's are bad enough.

Try The Tire Factory in Dande or Bundoora.

I'll agree with Ray on the unless you give it more neddies your wasting your time.

I went from 235x75's to 31x10½'s on my TD27 (2.7l diesel) and lost heaps of power and fuel economy.
I've gotten some (a fair bit actually) back with severe exhaust mods and I've learned to live with it as the extra clearance under the rear dif made it worth it.
Going from 235's to 33's ????? It'll look good though.
Cheers

My son put huge muddies on his Hilux - not sure of size - fitted a 5 litre TPI imported chevvy V8 first. I can ask what size him tomorrow if you still want to know. What a way to ruin a beautiful Hilux, but he has fun.

Wasn't a brown lux with a black tub? (it may be painted by now)
You will need 15*8 rims. Mates fuel ecconomy went through the floor when he ran with them so I wouldn't use them as daily drivers. I think 350kms/tank with 31" and roughly 200-250kms with the 33's on!!
