Anythings possible, but WHY? A new 3.0TD would be much more than a 6.5 Brunswick!

hi captain, what you mean 6.5 brunswick?
i think i should have worded question better,"can you pull a 2.8td out and bolt a 3.0td in without too much fuss?

Hi Craigg,

Nah, the 2.8TD had the small gearbox I believe (from memory!) but it was also a 6 cylinder wheras the 3.0TD is a 4 cyclinder and i reckon the engine mounts are all wrong. The radiator on the 3.0TD is larger, as is the intercooler etc...Once you get past that, the wiring harness CPU and general wiring would require a complete harnass changeout, perhaps the hardest job of all.

While i reckon the 3.0TD is a good engine (others vehmently disagree!!!!) I don't think its the right one for a swap. A better option is a V8 diesel as installed by say brunswick diesels here in WA.

Cheers

Captain

captain, thanks for your replies. sounds like i should be looking for a new 2nd hand 3.0 rather than mods to a 2.8 as one of the biggest selling points for me is fuel economy.
by the way your bus looks very nicely setup

The cost of a 3.0 would be moer than a V8 Turbo DIesel 6.5 that he mentioned.. You also get better power, economy as the engine doesnt have to work hard, and they sound SWEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet..

Im thinking of the same engine swap, have been offered a GU 4500 petrol for $22k, $10-15k for engine+swap - the sale of the 4.5, and I have an awesome truck!

Gday all
the 3lt motor for ny gu cost the dealer $13750 +gst direct from nissan australia, That was without the dealer putting their mark up on it or the installation .
so you would be looking at quite an expencive exercize

Can I be cheeky and ask you for your rocker cover off your 2.8 if you upgrade? My 2.8 rocker cover has a small crack!

Thanks Trukster but I'm pretty sure the RD 28 rocker cover will be very different to the 4.2. But I will check.
